Hot/Cold Pack

Happy Make It Monday Y’all!

So, my project for today took a bit longer to make than expected and I almost just called it quits because I got so frustrated with it. However, I still made it I just had to use a different method to do so. Today I made a Hot/Cold Pack for when I need something on my hip these days and for other days my head or anything else you may need one. Let’s get started…

Hot/Cold Pack

Things Used:

  • Sewing Machine
  • Velcro
  • Scissors
  • White Thread
  • Needle
  • Pattern Fabric of liking
  • Rice
  • Cloth bag
  • Pins
  • Patients

I purchased my fabric from Hobby Lobby in the fabric department. It was actually where they have the pre-cut packs you can get in various patterns that go together. The rice came from Kroger’s or Target, and the 4 by 6 cloth bags I purchased off of Amazon.com.

Using my sewing machine I sewed it in place, as well as I could. Remember this is technically my first sewing project. Unfortunately, by the time I got to the other piece of velcro, something went wrong on my sewing machine and it decided to stop working. I managed to get the second piece sewn in but for the rest of the project, not so much.

After working most of Saturday and half of Sunday to get my bobbin thread to come up with the upper thread, I finally gave up as there is literally something wrong with my machine now. As soon as I can I am going to have someone take me to take it somewhere to get it fixed, I hope. Anyways, I did it another way, with needle and thread.

Though the first go, I used the only needle I could find at the time which is a super big one. Then once my mom finally called me back she told me where I could find a regular size needle. So I took my first time thread out and redid it. Though I mainly only did that because the first time around was starting to come undone already.

Step #3:

Hot/Cold Pack -- Visit CraftyJBird for more info... Once my fabric was finally finished, I empty my bag of rice into my 4 by 6 cloth bag and sewed it up. First I sewed it with just the two sides together, then I folded it over once and sewed it through again just to be sure my rice wasn’t coming out.

Step #4:

Though I had to do a few more steps, this is actually a fairly easy project. Check back Wednesday and Thursday to find out what else I have in store for my hot/cold pack. You’re gonna love it!
