Happy Scrap It Friday Y’all!
We’ve made it through another week! Really hope everyone in the path of Hurricane Matthew is playing it safe and getting out of harms way!! He looks scary based on radar! ? Alright, a few weeks ago I was searching through our small garage looking for something but managed to find something else. I actually thought all of our things like this went into flames a couple of years ago but apparently they didn’t. ? So, my ‘a blast from the past’ is that I found a bunch of 3.5 floppy disks with pictures on them, at least according to the writing. Let’s get started..
A Blast From the Past
Short History Based on My Knowledge:
For those who don’t know, 3.5 inch floppy disks were used in the mid-80s through 2000. At least that’s as far as I can remember. They were used just like USB thumb drives are used now; only they were a bit bigger and only hold about 6 pictures total if you are saving pictures.
How I Viewed the Pictures:
The day I found the disks I jumped on Amazon.com and ordered me a disk reader. Once I got it in I jumped on my computer and USB connected it to try it out. Unfortunately, it didn’t work. So I had to send it back and once again I order me another one. Well, third time is always a charm right?, because I had to return the second one too and order me yet another one. Luckily, it worked! ?
The readers I order didn’t work because I only use Apple Computers. At least that’s why I thought they didn’t work at first. Turns out, the first two just weren’t compatible with the newest update.
What I Found:
Who remembers these? Comment below!
What I found are pictures from our very first cruise we went on in 2000 to Alaska. Ironically, I have not even done these pictures so who knows maybe I’ll get to them eventually. Though I haven’t been through all of them yet, some of the other disks have written on them saying they are Christmas pictures from 1999 and my Papa’s Birthday in 2000. After I did the math, I actually started crying because I realized this disk had pictures of my Papa’s last birthday. He died that November.
Since then I have looked at a few of the disks including that one. Here’s a few of the pictures I have discovered…
And there you go, ‘a blast from the past.’ Now, you must remember these were taken with as far as I’m concerned one of the first digital cameras that ever came out which is why it is so blurry. There wasn’t much of a choice of focusing, at least with the one we had at the time.
