Happy Random Tuesday!
Hope everyone had a great Monday! I had a couple of doctors appointments and then ran around like crazy trying to pick prescriptions up for my parents. Anyways, today is going to be fairly short but have a little family history on a Family Table. Let’s get started…
Family Table
So, over the years around Christmas our trees have changed but the one thing that hasn’t changed is the table. When the time comes my sister and I will probably fight over who gets the table. Though, if she’s living in Turkey at the time, I will get it. ?
Growing Up:
My mom inherited this table from her mom, who got it from her parents; and remembers using it when she was a little kid. It was originally bought to be used as an outside table. While growing up the table was still in its natural wood state. Instead of using it as an outside table her family used it to place the Christmas Tree on top.
Growing up, she remembers, her dad being real insistent with the metallic fringe, as he wanted it to be placed on piece by piece. Instead of using a table-cloth like we do these days, they used a skirt, of which, if I had to guess her mom handmade like she did a lot of different things.
Making It Hers:
After inheriting this family table, she decided to paint it white for the first Christmas Tree her and my dad had together. Before having my sister and I, the table ‘lived’ in several houses around our home town. Since having my sister and I, the table has now lived in a total of three houses. I looked and looked for several pictures to show off, unfortunately the only pictures I found were similar to this one where you can’t see the table because of all the gifts. Apparently no one thought to take pictures of the table throughout the years! ?
These Days:
No matter what size our tree is, we always manage to place it on top of this family table. Lucky for us we have tall ceilings since my dad really loves having tall trees. We always have to be super careful when it comes to moving this family table now since it has gotten up in age. However, no matter how old this family table gets, it will continue to stay in the family and be passed down whether it goes to myself or my sister.
Backstory for this post:
Backstory on why I decided to talk about this family tree is basically we finally got our Christmas Tree down yesterday. I got the top two pieces off Friday and then yesterday my mom decided she was just going to pull it down to get it down and put up. She only did this because she was tired of looking at it and someone from the warehouse was supposed to come several weekends ago and help my dad take it down but has never made it over here to do so.
