Jenn’s Cajun Shrimp Fried Rice

Happy Make It Monday Y’all!

Hope everyone had a great weekend! Today, instead of a craft I”m going to share a recipe I have kept to myself for years. I call it “Jenn’s Cajun Shrimp Fried Rice.” I made this for dinner Saturday night. Over the years, I haven’t even told my mom how to make it just so when I feel like fried rice I am the only one who gets to make it and be in the kitchen at the time. Since it is one of the few things, I know how to make without looking it up. Let’s get started…

Things Needed:

  • Brown Rice
  • Shrimp
  • Eggs
  • Olive Oil
  • Worcestershire Sauce
  • Soy Sauce
  • Tony Chachere
  • Mushrooms (optional)
  • Red Bell Pepper
  • Green Bell Pepper
  • Onion
  • Wok
  • Microwavable Bowl
  • Prep Bowls

Since I’ve been making this for over ten years, it doesn’t usually take me long. The part that takes me the longest is chopping everything up. Sometimes when I make it to the right grocery store, I get the packs where the bell peppers and onion are chopped already, which makes it much easier and faster.

The first thing I do while making this meal is take my shrimp out for them to start thawing out. I then measure out a cup worth based on how many will be eating. So, tonight it just me, my parents, and Alex (the bird). Yes, I make sure he gets his ‘servings’ worth.

Once my shrimp are out and ready to go more or less, I then chop the bell peppers and onion into small pieces.

Next, I make my brown rice. Since I don’t have the patience to wait for the water to boil, I use boil in a bag rice where all you have to do is add two to three bags of rice to a microwavable bowl, fill water to cover the bags and pop it into the microwave for 10 minutes.

After letting those simmer for a minute or so, I add six eggs. Depending on how I feel at the time, I either add whole eggs or will use just the egg whites.

There are times when I make this meal that I don’t add mushrooms, mainly because my dad doesn’t like them but Saturday I decided since I bought them I needed to use them. Then I added my brown rice.

The last main ingredient I add into the wok are the shrimp. Before adding them, I place them in the microwave to zap them for about two to three minutes. Once finished in the microwave, I drain the water out of the bowl, add them to the wok, and stir everything together.

Now that all the main ingredients have been added to the wok, I add the two sauces that just cannot be overlooked when making fried rice. Then I added the most important ingredient, Tony Chachures. When you live and/or from Louisiana, this is a must ingredient for most meals.
