Wooden Treasures

Happy Make It Monday Y’all!

Another week, another day… Hope everyone has a great one! I plan on working more on an awesomeness project I’ll have up for possibly next week. In the meanwhile, today I have some ‘wooden treasures’ I found from Michael’s Craft Store in their Recollection section. I’m not sure if anyone has tried this before, but I wanted to see if they would turn out and I think they did pretty dar n well! Let’s get started…

Wooden Treasures

Step #1:

Like I said above, I purchased my ‘wooden treasures’ from Michael’s Craft Store in their Recollection section, but any ‘craft’ type store would probably have them including online.

**Sorry I only have limited pictures, I took a video but it was too blurry so it’s no use**

Step #2:

Next, choose which colors you want to use. As you can see, I have four different colors of embossing powder. You will see, I used three different ones on my two wooden cutouts. So be creative and have fun with what colors you use. I purchased my embossing powders from various places, but the Paper Source Store has tons of colors to choose from in-store and online.

I used a dryer sheet to wipe down my catch all for my powder and on my cutouts so the powder wouldn’t stick in unwanted places. It worked for the most part definitely keeping my things cleaner than without using it.

Step #3:

Once you have your colors picked out, using your embossing pen, ‘color’ in the first section of your cutout to be embossed. I use my Versamark Pen my mom and sister got for me from the Paper Source Store in Dallas at the beginning of the summer. Once you have ‘colored in what you want with your embossing pen, sprinkle your first color on your cutout.

Step #4:

After your color is sprinkled on and you have removed the excess, use your heat gun to set it. Be careful as my cutout are small and I bout burnt myself. Also don’t get to close, or something may start smelling like it’s burning.

Step #5:

Repeat Step #’s 3 & 4 until you have covered your entire cutout.

Project #2:

I decided I would go ahead and try one more thing with my “wooden treasure” just in case I don’t have my embossing supplies with me one day when out on a cropping or at a cropping retreat. One thing that stays with my stuff whenever I’m scrapbooking are my chalks. As I have mentioned in a previous post, I love these chalks and use them all the time especially when I don’t know what color to cut my Cricut cuts in.

Things You’ll Need:

Step #1:

Again, choose which wooden cutout you want to use and/or would have a use for in such as on a scrapbooking page.

Step #2:

This time instead of using embossing powder, I used my chalks; though, it’s basically the same process as using the powder. Once the cutout is chosen, use your embossing pen to ‘color’ in what you want chalked first. Then choose the color you want and use a cotton ball to put the chalk color on the cutout. The Pebbles chalking set comes with three different size cotton balls for each color. It also comes with its own “gator mouth” pen thing to pick the cotton balls up. Keep repeating with different colors until you have filled your cutout the way you want it.

Step #3:

Once you have finished ‘coloring’ the cutout, use your heat gun to ‘set’ the chalks. This step is optional, I just did it to see if it really did anything. From what I can tell, it made my cutout a little more sparkly that if I hadn’t use it. Again, it’s not necessary, I wouldn’t even use it all the time since I don’t keep my heat gun with me at all times like I do my chalks.
